Gearing up for the cup

Terang and District Racing Club committee members Adrienne O’Sullivan, Brendan Williams and Elizabeth English show off this year’s Terang Cup.

THE silverware is polished and the spring fashions are out of the cupboard all in preparation for this weekend’s Terang Cup.
Plans for the cup meeting are in full swing with a range of activities to keep everyone entertained.
Fashions on the field will again feature heavily with over $5000 worth of prizes up for grabs, including accommodation packages in Melbourne, jewellery, as well as cosmetic and travel vouchers.
Club manager Karen Van Kempen said this year’s fashion on the field winner would be automatically entered into the draw for an all expenses paid trip to Hong Kong, as well as a four day modelling course.
“It’s an added bonus for winning; the winners from each country cup fashions on the field will be entered into the draw.
“Country Cup fashions on the field provide a great opportunity for racegoers to experience the thrill of spring in their own town.
“The day won’t be all about fashions, with plenty on offer to keep everyone entertained,” she said.
Ms Van Kempen said there would be a range of free children’s activities on offer to keep junior racegoers entertained.
“There will be a jumping castle and face painting, and while the kids are being entertained mum and dad can sit back and relax to live music on the lawn.
“Tickets for the Peter’s Project corporate marquee are still available, as are dining room packages and a wide range of other foods will be available.
“Sunday will be a great opportunity for families to come out and support their local racing club and enjoy quality country racing on the shady lawns of ‘the Flemington of the bush’,” Ms Van Kempen said.
With 273 horses nominated, including 44 for the Sungold Milk Terang Cup, it is likely the program could expand beyond eight races, making the punters choice even more difficult.
Last year’s cup winner, Colac trained Bourbonstreetblues, has been nominated to attempt back-to-back cup victories.
