TERANG’S Maureen Reicha was on cloud nine after learning she had won the top prize in a nationwide competition – a trip for two to New York.
Hair products company Matrix hosted the contest, which required entrants to say in 25 words or less why they loved their local hairdresser.
Mrs Reicha said her entry described Thomson Street Hair Design as “vibrant”, “exciting” and “always makes me feel better”.
She said while her children had been extra nice to her after the win, she would be taking her husband Michael.
“So far, I’m getting lots of jobs done at home,” Mrs Reicha said.
With the offer set to expire at the end of next year, she said she and her husband had started to plan the trip.
“We’ll probably extend it and do a bit more,” Mrs Reicha said.
She thanked Thomson Street Hair Design hairdresser Jeanette Rowe for helping her enter the contest.
“I’m so rapt it was won here,” Mrs Reicha said.
Ms Rowe said four other customers also took out prizes, including $250 gift cards and Gold Class movie tickets.
“We were the most successful salon,” she said.
Ms Rowe said having Mrs Reicha take out the top prize was special, as she had been a customer for all of the 25 years she had been hairdressing.
“We cried and cried,” she said.
Ms Rowe said Mrs Reicha’s work as a palliative care nurse had helped her family through her father’s death three years ago.
“This is more than a client, she helped us in our worst situation,” she said.
“She held my dad’s hand as he took his last breath.
“For us, it (the win) couldn’t have been more perfect.”
