Local man charged Thursday, 02 February 2012 00:00
POLICE last week arrested a local man in connection with a recent break-in at the Wheatsheaf Hotel.
A 20 year-old Terang man will front the Warrnambool Magistrates’ Court in March on two counts of aggravated burglary, one count of theft and one count of criminal damage.
The charges come after two culprits broke into the Wheatsheaf Hotel’s bottle shop at 11.30pm on Sunday, January 22.
They gained entry by smashing one of the shop’s front windows and then set about collecting alcohol from the store’s shelves.
The intruders triggered a security alarm, which woke publican Darren Cole who went downstairs to investigate.
He said he confronted two thieves, who made off on foot with a large quantity of alcohol.
As well as the loss of stock, Mr Cole is faced with a bill to fix the shop window, which he expected would be between $500-$1000.
Police said there would be no further investigation into the matter.
Another local is due to appear on charges in connection to a separate break-in last week.
At around 6pm on Wednesday, January 25, Terang Police received a call about a woman causing a disturbance on High Street.
Police allege she had broken into the Terang Maternal and Child Health Services Centre, located between the Terang Library and Apex playground.
Senior Constable Andrew McOrist said police noticed the security screen was unlocked and the front door appeared to have been kicked in. They found the woman inside, sitting on a couch.
The woman, who was intoxicated, refused to give her name to police and reportedly ‘misbehaved’ when taken into custody at Warrnambool.
She was bailed to appear at the Warrnambool Magistrates’ Court in March.
