Back in the saddle

STUDENTS jumped back in the saddle as Riding Develops Abilities (RDA) sessions returned for the year.
RDA provides horse riding activities at Glenormiston College Equestrian Centre for people living with a disability to promote therapeutic benefits and mental and physical skill development.
Students from Hampden Specialist School were all smiles as they grabbed the reigns last Thursday.
“We’ve got around 18 participants this year, so it’s going to be fairly full-on,” RDA coach Heather Rowe said.
“You can see the joy the kids get from it, the smile on their faces.
“I think they’re quite excited and there will be a lot of younger kids this year.”
The RDA crew welcomed a number of new volunteers in addition to a new horse, Penny.
“We bought her last year, and she’s now ready to roll,” Mrs Rowe said.
RDA is always on the lookout for new volunteers and horses which can participate, according to Mrs Rowe.
“Because we’ve got so many children participating this year, we’re looking for another horse,” she said.
“It’s a big thing for the horses to do, so the more we have the better off.
“If we’d be able to get one more horse, it would give each horse a longer break. We’d welcome anyone who can volunteer.”
