The Pelicans won the toss and batted, with the in-form Tim Fitzgerald elevated to open.

“Tim only opened because Simon Baker was late from playing in the Camperdown Golf Club Championships,” Bookaar captain Lachie Green said.

“It was either me or him and he’s been hitting the ball so well we gave him the opportunity.”

Fitzgerald smashed 133 from 124 balls, hitting five sixes and 11 fours.

“He just carried on his form.

“He can bat anywhere, I said to him he’d be back batting at number seven next week,” Green laughed.

Teenager Albie Cheeseman featured in a 144 run fourth wicket partnership with Fitzgerald, Green liking what he saw.

“Once Albie got in, Tim played second fiddle to him for a bit.

“Albie was in his own zone, he runs so well between wickets, he’s a really talented kid.”

Green said the move down the batting order had been beneficial.

“Last season Albie batted at three and did a great job.

“This year we’ve got him batting at five or six, he comes in with four or five fielders out instead of two, he’s adapted well.”

Cheeseman made 60 from 63 balls, while Green finished off the innings in spectacular fashion.

The Bookaar skipper smashed 73 from 36 balls, hitting seven sixes and two fours.

“The platform set allowed me to just tee off.

“We’ve got some good hitters to come in and play freely if we set the first 30 overs up well.”

Bookaar finished with a massive 6/367 from their 50 overs.

Alvie were competitive in reply, Liam McGuane and Andre Delorenzo making half centuries as the Swans scored 9/283 in their 50 overs.

“Teams have to come out and swing chasing a score like that.

“We changed up a few things with our bowling and got the job done.”

Michael Winzar continued his good form with the ball, finishing with 4/42 from 10 overs.

Bookaar has the bye this week.

In division two, Bookaar had a four wicket loss to Cobden at the Timboon High School ground.
