Birthing ward set to close

IN a blow to would-be mothers in Camperdown and surrounds, South West Healthcare (SWH) have announced a pause on birthing services at Camperdown hospital.

A SWH spokesperson said the decision came into effect this week.

“As of Monday, August 5, birthing services at Camperdown Hospital have been temporarily paused with the remaining maternity services at level one capability, to allow a review of current maternity service capabilities against the Department of Health’s Capability Framework for Maternity and Newborn services,” the spokesperson said.

“Camperdown will still be providing all pre and post maternity care services as normal.

“SWH’s Camperdown Hospital performs a very small number of low-risk births each year and arrangements are in place for any local women affected by this temporary pause in birthing services.”
