Brave roar raises over $10k
THE community rallied around a young boy facing a big battle last Saturday, raising over $10,000 to support his mother while he continues treatment.

Harlyn’s Brave Roar was organised by family friend Tori McCann to support Ebony Hurford and her son Harlyn, who is undergoing treatment for neuroblastoma – a type of cancer which affects immature nerve cells.
Ms McCann said the fundraiser saw $10,459.87 raised over the day, with 150 people packing the Camperdown Football and Netball Club’s clubrooms for the special event.
“We’re absolutely blown away,” she said.
“I did not expect to raise that much, but I’m so grateful.
“I think it shows how great our community is.
“I spoke to Ebony and Harlyn – they’re on day 22 at the Royal Children’s Hospital, and Ebony was definitely overwhelmed, grateful and appreciative.
“It was a privilege to organise such an event and make it successful.”
Highlights of the event included former Australian cricketer Merv Hughes auctioning off signed cricket balls and a cricket bat, live music from Leslie D King and the Trembling Shakes and Michael Ferguson, free face painting for the children in attendance and an auction of six items run by Camperdown local Toby Kent.
Hork’s Pizza catered the event, donating $5 from every pizza sold on the day towards the final total.
Ms McCann extended her gratitude to everyone who supported the event.
“Thank you so much to everyone who came – whether it was donating, buying a ticket, or even people who showed up,” she said.
“It was such an amazing day.”
