Josh Reynolds is now training in preparation for the under 16 Dowling Shield.

Reynolds, who has just turned 15, was one of around 50 players in attendance pushing their case for higher honours.

The Bulls leg-spinner and batsman is under no illusion about the task in making the final squad.

“It will be challenging to get to the next stage,” he said.

“I enjoyed training with plenty of very good cricketers.”

Reynolds made the same preliminary squad last year but never made the final cut.

He was kept on to train for most of last summer in Geelong’s under 15 academy squad.

“Geelong kept communicating with us well last year, it was great to keep training with the under 15 squad,” Reynolds said.

Whether he makes the final cut in the weeks ahead or not, Reynolds is enjoying what the Geelong CC has to offer.

“The indoor facility (the Barwon Regional Cricket Centre at Kardinia Park) is unreal, the coaches are really good, it’s great to experience different coaching.”

Reynolds spends his winter playing football with South Colac where he is vice-captain of the under 15 team.

“I love my footy but it’s great to get back into cricket.

“I just enjoy playing sport all year round.”

Reynolds has played some division one cricket for Pomborneit over the past two years while being a regular in the division two team.

He will line up in the Bulls’ under 16 and under 17 teams in the 2025/26 season as well as in senior cricket.

“I like the opportunities we get at Pomborneit and will try to play the best cricket I can.”
