Bulls welcome newest recruit
POMBORNEIT Cricket Club has unveiled its newest recruit, with Englishman Mikey Hayes arriving in Australia last week to join the Bulls for the 2025/26 season.

The seam bowling all-rounder hails from Bewdley in Worcestershire, and to date has played all of his cricket for the Bewdley Cricket Club.
The 21 year-old will mix cricket with some bar work and sightseeing during his six month stay in Australia.
“I’m really excited to be heading to the MCG for the Boxing Day Test,” Hayes said.
“There is so much to see and do out here, the Great Ocean Road is something else I’m keen to see.”
Hayes played in Pomborneit’s intra-club practice match last Saturday and enjoyed his first taste of cricket in Australia.
“The lads welcomed me in very well and it was good to have a run, it was a very competitive hitout.”
Bulls division one skipper Grant Place said Hayes would be a welcome addition to the Pomborneit team.
“With Brad Hillman retiring and Clinton Place not expected to play as much, Mikey adds some depth to our fast bowling ranks.
“He should be a real asset, he’s nippy and can certainly move the ball.”
Hayes has already found himself helping out with the club’s junior training sessions and is looking forward to a big season of cricket.
“The conditions are very different to back home and it will take a bit to adapt to the hard wickets as most of my cricket has been on turf,” Hayes said.
“I’m hoping to keep developing my game, contribute as a wicket taker, and with some runs with the bat and hopefully be part of a winning team.”
