Classics draw a crowd
SOME of the rarest cars in Victoria descended on Tea Tree Lake over the weekend as crowds gathered to celebrate motoring history.

The Federation of Veteran, Vintage and Classic Vehicle Car Clubs (FVVCVCC) travelled in style to Mortlake on Sunday to showcase their fleet of iconic vehicles which span through all eras of motoring.
The collective of car clubs hosts the event every year as part of its Picnic Days, which aims to bring together not only members but the wider community to enjoy a day of curiosity, conversation and plenty of photos of the kids with their favourite cars.
FVVCVCC committee member John Kennett said Mortlake never disappoints, with crowds always flocking to show their support.
“We went flat out to get everything ready because we’ve had a great roll up,” he said.
“Everybody is happy and friendly, and that’s what it’s all about.
“It’s a picnic for the clubs to interact with not only their own members, but with each club.”
Mr Kennett thanked the Country Women’s Association (CWA), Mortlake Lions and Coffee with the Girls for being on hand to man the barbecue, sell cakes and sweets, and beverages, calling them “national treasures”.
“For the public to come through and appreciate the cars, whether they understand them in any way, shape or form, the fact they have a good day and a smile, and perhaps buy a snag or a hamburger to help out the Lions and CWA is what it’s all about,” he said.
“The Lions and CWA do a great job for us so we’re all really happy.”
Mr Kennett said he was pleased to see so many people come along on the day, filling up Tea Tree Lake to enjoy the occasion and get an up-close look at some of the vehicles on display.
“Tea Tree Lake is a beautiful spot, it’s glorious, and a wonderful asset for Mortlake and the rest of the shire,” he said.
“It’s an asset to the town, and needs to be recognised as such.”
