Cats fall short
MORTLAKE fell short chasing Port Fairy’s total of 230 on day two of their division one premier match at the DC Farran Oval.
The hosts could only manage 119, dismissed in the 65th over.
Co-captain Craig Britten top scored with 36 from 71 balls, hitting four fours and a six.
Opener Adam Atwood made 32 from 72 balls with six boundaries, with number three Taj Podger making a patient 21 from 131 balls.
Port Fairy had another 14 overs to bat in their second innings, finishing at 5/77 when stumps were drawn; Damien Goddard taking 4/33 from seven overs.
This week sees Mortlake’s premier team starting a two day match against Merrivale at Merrivale.

In the championship division, Mortlake registered a 20 run win over Hawkesdale at Mortlake College.
Setting out to defend the 179 they made on day one, Mortlake bowled the visitors out for 159 in 69 overs.
Clinton Baker led the way with 5/40 from 27 overs in the win, taking the first four wickets to fall.
This week the Mortlake championship team start a two day match against Merrivale at the DC Farran Oval.
In division three, Mortlake scored a big 196 run win over Koroit at Victoria Park.
Batting first, the visitors smashed 5/400 from their 40 overs.
Neil Kelly hit 167 from just 102 balls, with 15 fours and 10 sixes, while opener Corey Rounds hit 102 from 61 balls, with 15 fours and three sixes.
In reply Koroit was bowled out for 204 in the 35th over, with Jordan Wareham and Elijah Bradbury taking three wickets each.
This week in division three Mortlake will play Port Fairy at JJ Colledge Oval.
In the women’s competition, Mortlake lost to Koroit by 18 runs at the DC Farran Oval.
Koroit batted first and made 5/104, with Audrey Ringe and Letitia Howat taking two wickets each.
In reply Mortlake could only manage 5/104, Annabelle Glossop top scoring with 30 from 25 balls.
This week the Mortlake women play Dennington at Dennington.
In the under 17s, Mortlake/Cobden completed a 113 run win over Nestles at Mortlake College.
Resuming on 0/128, the combine finished at 3/180.
Nestles was then bowled out for just 67 in the 25th over.
Max Slater, Eamon Sloane and Josh Roberts took two wickets each.
This Sunday Mortlake/Cobden start a two day match against Noorat Terang at the Terang Turf.
In the under 15s, Mortlake/Cobden had a two wicket loss to Russells Creek.
Chasing Mortlake/Cobden’s 8/86 from day one, Russells Creek passed the score eight wickets down, finishing at 8/107.
Rhys Darcy led the bowling with 3/8 from six overs.
This week the Mortlake/Cobden under 15s start a two day match against Raiders/Nirranda at Hughes Oval.
