Terang RSL sub-branch president Dianne Meade said what started as a humble idea had grown from strength to strength, serving as one of the club’s most reliable fundraisers.

“It’s still going very, very well,” she said.

“We had an idea from one of our members and it has just continued to grow from there.

“We were able to get things running, and it’s been magnificent ever since.

“We couldn’t be happier.”

Morning Melodies is held on the fourth Monday of each month, drawing in excess of 100 audience members to every show.

The benefits of the event linger long after the audience leaves and the chairs are stacked, supporting the work the RSL does throughout the community and within the walls of the hall.

“It greatly supports our club,” Mrs Meade said.

“Anyone who saw Morning Melodies five years ago would not believe where it has grown to be now, and it is all in support of what we do.

“What we get goes straight back into what we do at the hall, the environment, the outside, the tram.

“Everything benefits from Morning Melodies and we’d be lost without it.”

The Terang RSL has attempted to shake things up this year with a change in time and an ever-changing line-up of musicians in a bid to keep things fresh.

“It’s going very, very well this year,” Mrs Meade said.

“We’ve come up with more fundraising ideas with beanies, caps, pens and stickers.

“We’re also looking to launch a Terang RSL calendar for next year, which promotes our tram, the hall, our memorabilia and the outside.

“Hopefully it gets off and we can get it to come to fruition.”

Mrs Meade praised the diligent work of RSL member July Walters, who had secured popular artist Russell Urwin as the entertainment for the milestone.

“Our guest artist was Russell Urwin from Amphitheatre, near Avoca,” she said.

“Russell said he has been in the music industry since “way too long”.

“He entertained us with country, rock and anything else.

“He brought along his mate Kenny Garrett, who is also a country-western entertainer.”

The next Morning Melodies session will be held at the Terang RSL Hall on Shadforth Street from 10-12noon on Monday, July 27.
