Close games on the tables

ANOTHER close round of table tennis matches at Terang this week saw some repositioning on the ladder.

After defeating Ghanda, Battlers jumped to third on the ladder, while Rhino’s reclaimed top spot.

Battlers are now on a roll, with two wins on the trot after narrowly defeating Ghanda 6-5.

This win saw them take Ghanda’s spot in the top four.

Mark Smith won two singles, Peter Maina also won two singles, while Kim Anderson won a singles and combined to win a doubles with Mark – which got them to six rubbers.

Callum McSween won all his singles and a doubles with Ron Cook, who also won a singles.

Rhino’s reclaimed top spot after defeating TIC 6-5.

Usually if you win both doubles you win on the night, but this wasn’t the case as TIC (in both doubles) came back from two games down to win five games.

Tony Young won all his singles for Rhino’s while team-mate Vesha Chapagai had a busy night – he defeated Tyler Smith in five games and lost in five to Colin Venn in a marathon match, 12-14, 15-13, 12-14, 15-13 and 11-6.

Vesha finished with two wins and John Rantall a singles match.

Colin won two singles while Tyler Smith won one.

Ladder – Rhino’s 28, TIC 24, Battlers 16, I Don’t Care 16, Ghanda 12.
