The Demons went down by 91 points in the season opener at a windswept Mack Oval in Warrnambool in their first game under new coach Andrew Hargreaves.

The first 10 minutes of the game saw an arm wrestle between the two teams, with no score until Russells Creek giant forward Dylan Burns marked and goaled from a tight angle.

Crafty Timboon forward Tomas Lindquist replied soon after with a snapped goal from a forward pocket throw in.

The game continued as a tight contest until Russells Creek kicked two goals in the time on period to go into the first break with a 13 point lead.

A goal in the first minute of the second quarter saw the home team assert their dominance, continuing on with a seven-goal term.

Burns and their speedy small forwards dominated as the Demons could only manage a solitary behind.

Lindquist marked strongly and goaled from the forward pocket early in the third quarter but that was Timboon’s only high point of the term.

The home team kicked another three goals to lead at the final change by 71 points.

Russells Creek continued its dominance in the final quarter, scoring a further four unanswered goals, Timboon finally scoring a third goal in time on when Ned Deppler pounced on a loose ball in front of goal and kicked truly.

The home team finished on 17-11-113 to Timboon’s 3-4-22; Dylan Burns kicking five goals.

Nathan Ellemor, Joshua Worboys and Ben Newey were named as the Demons best.
