Demons too strong for Tigers

THE much-anticipated clash against Lismore Derrinallum didn’t go well for Woorndoo Mortlake’s senior footballers, well beaten 14.12.96 to 4.7.31.

The first half saw a dominant performance from the home team at the Derrinallum Recreation Reserve, the Tigers managing just four behinds by the main break.

The Tigers were more competitive in the second half, scoring four goals to the Demons’ five.

Jesse Horan was the only multiple goal kicker for Woorndoo Mortlake with two.

Ethan Mayhew, Otto Opperman and Tyson Osborne were best for the Tigers.

This week the Tigers will host Moyston Willaura at Woorndoo.

Lismore Derrinallum also had a big win in the reserves, 11.10.76 to 3.5.23.

Josh Mahncke kicked two goals for the Tigers, with Chris Crawley, Tim Ackerly and Hunter Lynch named as best for Woorndoo Mortlake.

Lismore Derrinallum were far too strong in the under 16.5 match, winning 20.16.136 to 0.1.1.

Matthew Pilcher, Kaiden Mitchell and Zavier Turner best for the junior Tigers.

The Tigers returned to the A grade netball winners list with a thumping 49-14 win.

Tigers coach Bec Rohan was pleased with her team’s explosive start.

“We really focused on a strong warm up and getting away to a good start, it was pleasing to get away like that,” she said.

Rohan was happy with the inclusions coming back into the team for this match.

“We had a few away last week, it was good to have that bit more depth this week for our rotations,” he said.

In particular, Rohan was thrilled to have goal defender Mia Richie back for this game.

“Having Mia back in defence really strengthened us, she was outstanding on the day, a real rising star,” he said.

Lismore Derrinallum got the win in the B grade netball, 28-11.

Lily Schuuring led the scoring for Woorndoo Mortlake with seven goals.

In the C grade game, Lismore Derrinallum had a 22-8 victory, Annalise Abbott scoring all eight of the Tigers goals.

The Demons also got the win in the 18 and under netball, 41-22.

Ava Wardlaw scored 15 goals for the under 18 Tigers.

Woorndoo Mortlake was too good in the 15 and under game, winning 26-8.

Ivy Wardlaw scored 12 goals and Indi Wardlaw 11 for the Tigers.

Woorndoo Mortlake also took out the 13 and under netball, winning 13-7, with five players sharing the goals for the Tigers.
