DramaFest coming to Camperdown

CORANGAMITE Shire Council is giving young people access to professional, industry-level drama training right in their own region – allowing them to see whether they’re the next Millie Bobby Brown or Timothée Chalamet.

DramaFest SouthWest is a series of workshops for school students led by Jennifer Monk who is an award-winning actor, director, writer and producer with over 20 years’ experience across theatre, film, television, and digital series.

“These hands-on, high-energy sessions are designed to build confidence, spark creativity and develop real performance skills,” Corangamite Shire Council acting director sustainable development Katy McMahon said.

“These workshops are open to primary and secondary students.

“No drama experience is needed.

“Whether you’re a theatre regular or just drama-curious, this is your moment to jump in and have fun.”

Three sessions will be held for different age groups at the Killara Centre (220-224 Manifold Street) in Camperdown.

Drama Club is for children from Prep to Year Two, and will be held on Sunday, September 7 from 10-11am and Wednesday, October 22 from 3.45-4.45pm.

Built on a playful and supportive environment, the class focuses on theatre games, storytelling, character play, scene building and dress-ups designed to build confidence and creativity.

Drama Lab is for students from Years Three – Six and will be held on Sunday, September 7 from 11.15am-12.15pm and Wednesday, October 22 from 5-6pm.

The workshop allows students to have a hands-on approach to exploring theatre games, improvisation, character work and scene creation.

Acting Studio is a workshop for high school students to learn acting techniques including voice, body, character development, monologues and scenes.

The Acting Studio sessions will be held on Sunday, September 7 from 12.30-2pm and Wednesday, October 22 from 6.15-7.45pm.

“There are two stand-alone sessions in each group,” Ms McMahon said.

“While it would be beneficial for students to attend both classes, it’s not required.”

Ms McMahon said places were limited and encouraged aspiring thespians to register soon at events.humanitix.com/dramafest.
