Dry spell continues

DROUGHT conditions continued throughout March with Terang and Mortlake experiencing below half of the long-term monthly average rainfall.


The region has experienced rainfall below the long-term average across the first three months of the year.

Terang saw just 17.4mm of rain hit the ground over the month, below the long-term average of 47.6mm.

The highest daily rainfall result was recorded on March 16, when 7mm hit the ground.

Despite the low result, the figure does mark an increase from 2024 when only 7.4mm of rain fell over the same period.

The result brings the total rain experienced in Terang for 2025 to 43.6mm, well below the 124.2mm expected over the same period.

Meanwhile in Mortlake, just 14mm was recorded throughout March – below the long-term monthly average of 31mm.

The highest daily result was Sunday, March 16, whne 5.2mm of rain hit the ground.

Mortlake also enjoyed an increase from the previous year, with just 3.6mm falling in March 2024, but the result will still have farmers hoping the skies open soon.

For Mortlake, the total rainfall recorded to-date in 2025 has reached 44.8mm – a far cry from the 97.6mm expected over the same period.
