Exploring C’mite’s nature
THE natural beauty of the Corangamite Shire will be on show this month as part of the monthly art exhibitions at the Camperdown Courthouse.

Lismore’s Lydia Green is the featured artist for the month of April, with her pastels showcasing the animals, landscapes and flowers that make Corangamite shine.
Ms Green said the works on show this month are works which have not been sold at previous exhibitions in the district, including exhibitions as part of the Corangamite Creatives collective and the exhibitions at the old Bookaar School.
“We’ve got a whole months’ worth of browsing for people to come and have a look at,” she said.
“There’s something for everyone – there’s animals, landscapes and some little floral works.
“I’m expanding at the moment – slowly – going from something I’m comfortable with to something I’m not so comfortable with.
“They’re all from around the area. Animals in this area, landscapes around Camperdown – that’s the main thing that brings everything together.
“Where we live, it’s a pretty place and we try and bring that out in our art for people to appreciate.”
Ms Green enjoys creating in a variety of media, with her works in this exhibition including watercolours, pastels and an oil painting.
“To create, I like to use varied media, namely pastels, oils, acrylics and watercolours,” she said.
“I let the subject determine which media I will use; each subject has a life and feel of its own and I want to do it justice.
“I mainly love to draw and paint animals, but also do landscapes – I like realism just not hyperrealism.
“I will try my hand at whatever comes to my attention that I find interesting.
“I never say never, my mantra is ‘I can do that’ – it might not be perfect each time, but you don’t learn anything if you don’t give it a try and you keep trying until you get it right.”
