Finals fever hits indoor bowls

FINALS fever has arrived for Heytesbury Indoor Bias Bowls teams.

In semi-finals action last Wednesday, division one saw Cobden 1 (David Childs (s), Fred Salmon, Brad Wilson and Doreen Coverdale) def. Timboon Lawn (Jason Mungean (s), Noah Mungean, Jean Clover and Pam Dwyer) 14-17.

Mepunga 4 (Peter Neal (s), Doug Byron, Les Lenehan and Julie Shiels) lost to Glenormiston 1 (Allen Armistead (s), Scott Pierce, Deb Noonan and Bec Heard) 16-17.

For Mepunga 4 their finals journey has ended in fourth place this season.

In division two, Glenormiston 2 (Deb Cheslett (s), Ron Heard, Maureen Bond and Danielle Gilchrist) def. Mepunga 4 (Gerald Madden (s), Clarrie Matthews, Bev Byron and Ian Heatly) 32-11.

Cobden 2 (Joyce Roberts (s), Gerrit Bekker, Jill Lynch and Kate Walsh) lost to Scotts Creek 2 (Allan Beasy (s), Les Neale, Louise Blair and Audrey Armistead) 10-27.

For Cobden 2, their finals journey has ended this season.

In division three, Scotts Creek 1 (Neville Robb (s), Joan Laing, Helen Hobbs and Marlene Page) def. Glenormiston 3 (Max Heard (s), Justin Rasmussen, Noel Uebergang and Ray Bond) 19-15.

Camperdown 2 (Graeme Chamberlain (s), Norma Weller, Gordon Weller and Judy Borthwick) lost to Peterborough (Charles Martin (s), Angela Payne, Dave Dendle and Ross Wooley) 8-21.

For Camperdown 2, their finals journey has ended this season.

SEMI-FINALS

WEDNESDAY JULY 29

The preliminary finals were held at Simpson Hall last Friday, two days’ after the semi-finals.

In division one, Timboon Lawn (Jason Mungean (s), Noah Mungean, Jean Clover and Pam Dwyer) def. Glenormiston 1 (Allen Armistead (s), Scott Pierce, Deb Noonan and Bec Heard) 19-14.

For Glenormiston 1 their season ends in third place, despite losing their first five games of the season.

In division two, Mepunga 4 (Gerald Madden (s), Clarrie Matthews, Bev Byron and Ian Heatly) lost to Scotts Creek 2 (Allan Beasy (s), Les Neale, Louise Blair and Audrey Armistead) 12-29.

For Mepunga 4 this ends their finals run for 2026, despite losing the first three matches of the season.

In division three, Glenormiston 3 (Max Heard (s), Justin Rasmussen, Noel Uebergang and Ray Bond) def. Peterborough (Charles Martin (s), Angela Payne, Dave Dendle and Ross Wooley) 17-14.

Despite a tumultuous season, Peterborough has shown they can play come finals time, however their season has now ended.

Grand final matches will be played tonight (Wednesday) at the Simpson Hall.

In division one, Cobden 1 will face Timboon Lawns; division two Glenormiston 2 v Scotts Creek; division three Scotts Creek 1 v Glenormiston 3.

Please note that roll-up will start at 7.30pm, with a 7.45pm match start time so please arrive early to ensure a smooth event.

The players fee is the same as its been all season at $7 and spectators are $2 entry.

There will a raffle on the night so get your tickets for that and tea, coffee & biscuits will be provided but feel free to bring some supper to share if you wish.

The next event on the Heytesbury calendar is the HIBBA drawn pairs championships, held at Timboon Lawn, this Friday, August 7 at 7pm.

The draw wasn’t available at the time of publication but keep an eye on the HIBBA facebook page for more info and as always, the lead-up to pairs finals will also be there.

Good luck to the Champion of Champions Bec Heard and David Childs for this Saturday’s Champion of Champions in Ballarat.

A reminder that the HIBBA drawn fours championships will start on Friday, August 14 and finals will be held on Wednesday, August 19, all at Camperdown.

HIBBA presentation night is on Wednesday, September 17 at Timboon Bowls Club (please note the change of venue).
