First loss for Knights
COBDEN lost for the first time this season in the Colac-South West premier cricket competition on Saturday in a close game at Pomborneit.

Kaplan McCann was a late call up to the team on the morning of the match and got the Knights off to a flier with a hard hitting 49.
Fellow opener Campbell Walsh batted with great discipline, out in the 43rd over for an innings high 68 from 115 balls.
Johno Benallack (31 from 27 balls) and Eddie Walsh (17 from 19 balls) hit five sixes between them to accelerate the Cobden innings, which finished at 7/222 from their 50 overs.
Pomborneit reached 42 before Eddie Walsh and Paul Pekin removed the two openers on that score.
The Bulls kept putting together partnerships but Cobden kept taking regular wickets to keep the game tight.
Off-spinner Matthew Harkin took the crucial wickets of Lahiru Fernando and Bulls captain Grant Place through the middle overs.
Tharaka Sendanayake blasted 50 from 40 balls and when he was dismissed by Angus Uwland Pomborneit were 6/184.
The Bulls continued to edge closer, and when Parker Walsh took the eighth wicket to fall, the home team needed four from the final over with two wickets in hand, which they achieved in three balls.
Cobden still sit atop of the ladder and this week the Knights host Stoneyford on the Cobden turf wicket.
In division two, Cobden had a 90 run win over Boorcan at Cobden.
Opener Jonty Robertson scored 51 from 82 balls, with Simon Murfett smashing 67 not out from 47 balls, with six fours and two sixes, as the Knights posted 4/231.
Cobden bowled the Dragons out in the 33rd over, the wickets shared evenly as five bowlers took two wickets each.
The division three Knights had a four wicket win over Ecklin at the Timboon High School Oval.
Batting first, the Frogs were restricted to 8/138 from their 40 overs.
Brodie Hanks led the way for Cobden with 3/16 from five overs.
Cobden passed Ecklin’s score in the 29th over, Rick Bailey leading the way with 56 from 46 balls, hitting nine fours and a six.
On Sunday, Cobden had a 16 run loss to Bookaar in the under 16s at Cobden.
The visitors batted first and made 6/115 from their 35 overs, with Will Darcy taking two wickets.
Cobden could only manage 99 in reply, all out in the 34th over despite an unbeaten 42 to Darcy.
In the under 13s, Cobden had a 38 run win over Heytesbury-Princetown at Timboon High School.
Brandon Srdoc and Anderson Pekin both made 20 retired in the junior Knights’ score of 2/109.
The Storm replied with 2/71 from their 24 overs.
In this week’s games, the division two Knights play Storm Purple at Timboon, division three head to Princetown to play the Storm, the under 16s host Pomborneit at Cobden while the under 13s play Camperdown at Camperdown number two on Monday night.
On Sunday, Cobden had a six wicket loss to Hawkesdale in round six of the Warrnambool Moyne District Cricket Association.
Batting first at the Camperdown number two oval, Cobden managed 4/84 from their 25 overs.
Leah Dickson top scored with 43 from 73 balls, featuring in a 68 run partnership for the second wicket with twin sister Anna, who made15 from 47 balls.
“We were hoping for around 100 as the ground was pretty slow,” Cobden captain Abbie Hanks said.
“The Dickson twins had a really good partnership, Leah held her wicket well and they ran between wickets together brilliantly.”
In reply the visitors passed Cobden’s score in the 17th over for the loss of four wickets.
Olivia Coburn with 2/13 from three overs was the best of the bowlers, with Phoebe Harris and Rachel O'Keeffe taking a wicket each.
“Phoebe and Olivia bowled well, they slowed down the scoring after Hawkesdale made a strong start.
“Olivia is a little gun, she’s becoming more consistent with her bowling.”
This Sunday Cobden take on Allansford-Panmure at Panmure.
“We’d really like to get the win in this game, it will be a good test of where we are at.”
In the South West women’s comp, Cobden Gold defeated Ecklin at South Purrumbete, while Cobden Blue defeated Camperdown at Camperdown number two.
Charlotte Meade top scored with 30 from 66 balls in Gold’s 1/120 in reply to Ecklin’s 1/110.
Mikaela Doran made 30 retired in Blue’s score of 1/99 in reply to Camperdown’s 5/70.
Tonight’s game sees the two Cobden teams play each other at the South Purrumbete Recreation Reserve.
