First loss for Tigers
WOORNDOO/MORTLAKE’S senior footballers tasted defeat for the first time in 2026, going down to reigning premiers Lismore/Derrinallum by 30 points on Saturday.
The well attended match at the DC Farran Oval in Mortlake saw the Demons run out winners with a 13.8.86 to 8.8.56 scoreline.
The Tigers found goal scorers hard to come by, with Nelson Anders the only multiple goal kicker with two.
Jack Richie, James Coghlan West, Matthew Pemberton, Zeb McKenna, Keilan Webster-Bamford and Damien McCorkell were best for Woorndoo/Mortlake in the loss.
This Saturday the Tigers take on Wickliffe/Lake Bolac at the Lake Bolac Recreation Reserve.
The reserves match saw Lismore/Derrinallum score a 14.9.93 to 1.4.10 win.
Bowdyn Webster-Bamford, Elijah Bradbury, Matthew Bourchier and Tom Carmichael were best for Woorndoo/Mortlake, with Webster-Bamford kicking the only goal.
The under 17 football saw Lismore/Derrinallum score a 4.5.29 to 2.6.18 win.
Cooper Francis, Mason Dale, William Cameron and Max Slater were best for the Tigers, with Cameron and Slater kicking a goal each.
The under 13 football saw Woorndoo/Mortlake have a convincing win, 8.6.54 to 2.1.13.
Leo Slater, Zac Beaton and Oliver Harris were best for the junior Tigers, with Harris kicking three goals and Slater two.
In the A grade netball, Woorndoo/Mortlake came from two goals down at three quarter time to record a 41-35 win.
“It was a great win on Saturday, we were very happy to get that one, the girls put in a great effort,” Tigers coach Renae Reynolds said.
“We concentrated on the stuff we’ve been practising at training and everyone put it into the game, which was great to see.”
A big last quarter, where Woorndoo/Mortlake outscored the Demons 15 to seven, sealed the win.
“It was a big last quarter, everybody dug in and I think we scored off every turnover, which was amazing.
“Lismore/Derrinallum are looking like a pretty handy team this year, so to get that win on the board was really good.”
Mia Richie was best for the Tigers in the win, with Ashlea Spokes shooting 30 goals.
“Mia was our standout player, Ash had a very good game with her goal shooting.”
The Tigers A graders have no game for the next two weeks, with Wickliffe/Lake Bolac not fielding a team in that grade and a league bye the week after for the Kings Birthday long weekend.
“It’s probably a good thing, we've had a couple of niggly injuries lingering.
“So the two weeks off has actually come at a good time for us just to let the bodies recover a little bit.”
Woorndoo/Mortlake had a 32-26 win in the B grade game.
Jamie Killen, Sara Kosch and Holly Trajcevski were best for the Tigers, with Brooke O’Brien shooting 19 goals and Chloe Goldsworthy nine.
The C grade game saw Lismore/Derrinallum score a 20-17 win.
Annalise Abbott and Chelsea McCosh were the Tigers best, with McCosh scoring 11 goals.
Woorndoo/Mortlake scored a convincing 36-15 win in the 17 and under game.
Hannah Leske, Indi Wardlaw and Bella Wardlaw were best for the Tigers,
In the 15 and under game, Woorndoo/Mortlake had a 37-15 win.
Best for Woorndoo/Mortlake were Ashlee Killen, Lacey Killen and Ivy Wardlaw, with Wardlaw shooting 16 goals and Natalie Krepp 15.
Woorndoo/Mortlake also got the points in the 13 and under game, with a 39-12 win.
Arya Bouchier, Paige Maddock and Charlotte Allen were best for the junior Tigers, with Maddock shooting 30 goals.
