From scrap heap to centre circle
MORTLAKE’S old netball goals, once destined to be discarded, have helped return competitive sport to a village in Papua New Guinea (PNG) for the first time in a decade.
A treasured gift: Mortlake Recreation Reserve committee of management vice chair Noel McConnell acknowledged it was an emotional moment when he saw the reserve’s old netball posts had brought sporting competitions back to isolated areas of Papua New Guinea after a chance conversation saw the excess equipment given a new lease of life.
