The win was part of A Better Choice’s Shop and Win promotion.

Every store under the A Better Choice banner offers customers a share in $10,000 in prizes through five $200 vouchers being given away every week until July 10.

Greavesys Fruit N Veg produced a winner in the first week of the promotion, with Rachael and James Krepp cashing in on a $200 voucher to spend in store.

Greavesys Fruit N Veg owner Cassie Greaves said it was exciting to see a customer cashing in among the national winners.

“The competition is in its sixth year and is run by A Better Choice, which is promoted nationally,” she said.

“It’s a good way to encourage consumers to support their local green grocer.”

Mrs Greaves said the competition in previous years has seen items such as coffee machines given out to winners, but the change to vouchers was a welcome one as it helped families at a time when wallets felt a little lighter.

“This year the prizes are voucher to spend at the local stores involved in the initiative, with a $200 voucher, which can be spent on fruit and vegetables as part of your normal shopping or treating yourself,” she said.

“We think, in the current economy, it’s a lot better than something like winning a coffee machine.

“All you have to do to enter is shop in store and buy fresh fruit or vegetables, even if it’s just one apple and a bunch of flowers.

“As long as you buy fresh fruit and veggies you can enter.”

Mr Krepp was more than happy to do a little shopping when picking up his prize over the weekend.

“It’s awesome to win,” he said.

“We got a bit of a shock knowing the competition is Australia wide.

“To get a $200 voucher is pretty good.”
