LOCALS dodged the heat while enjoying some of the hottest songs of 2021 when Mortlake pool hosted a “Hottest 100” countdown listening party over the weekend.

Swimmers flocked to the facility on Saturday to tune in to the tunes as part of Triple J’s popular “Hottest 100” countdown, in which 2.5 million Australians voted for their favourite songs of the year.

The Wiggles took out the title of hottest song for their cover of Tame Impala’s song Elephant, showing the heavyweights of children’s entertainment can churn out a rock anthem.

Mortlake pool manager Caitlin Quinn said the listening party was a hit with swimmers.

“There was a large crowd due to the hot weather, with many members of the community taking the opportunity to get relief from the heat,” she said.

Ms Quinn said the “Hottest 100” listening party helped to continue a strong summer for the pool.

“The season so far has been successful, especially on the warmer days when we get more people through the doors,” she said.

“The pool will be open until April 3 and the public can expect water aerobics to continue on Wednesday nights at 6pm and early morning swimming on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6am-8.30am throughout the season.

“There will also be days where the inflatable is up and the barbecue is running, with more events planned for during the season.

“For up-to-date information the public is encouraged to “like” the Facebook page, ‘Mortlake Outdoor Swimming Pool’ to be informed about what is happening at the pool.”
