Interesting results from round five
ROUND five pennant results of Heytesbury Indoor Bias Bowls saw some interesting results recorded.
Division one:
Mepunga 3 (Peter Neal (s), Doug Byron, Les Lenehan and Julie Shiels) def. Glenormiston 1 (Allen Armistead (s), Scott Pierce, Deb Noonan and Danielle Gilchrist) 18-14.
Laang-Ecklin (Pam Wines(s), Rita Mungean, Kathryn Wines and Allen Cook) lost to Cobden 1 (David Childs (s), Fred Salmon, Claire Reynolds and Doreen Coverdale) 9-15.
Mepunga 1 (Barb Draffen (s), Helen Harney, Sally Madden and Yvonne Lenehan) lost to Mepunga 2 (George Draffen (s), Frank Harney, Gayle McPherson and Karl Keegan) 8-24.
Timboon Lawn (Jason Mungean (s), Noah Mungean, Pam Dwyer and Jean Clover) def. Camperdown (Les Pearson (s), Ron Simcox, Sophie Pearson and Roelie Maslin) 21-6.
The top four this week in division one are Cobden 1 (undefeated), Mepunga 2, Timboon Lawn and Laang-Ecklin.
Division two/three:
Scotts Creek 1 (Allan Beasy (s), Joan Laing, Marion Frencham and Audrey Armistead) lost to Mepunga 4 (Gerald Madden (s) Clarrie Matthew, Bev Byron and James Byron) 11-16.
Scotts Creek 2 (Neville Robb (s), Trevor Hobbs, Neville Page and Marlene Page) def. Cobden 2 (Joyce Roberts (s), Kevin Rundle, Bill Johnson and Alex McGowan) 33-13.
Glenormiston 2 (Deb Cheslett (s), Ron Heard, Maureen Bond and Rita Pasque) def. Glenormiston 3 (Max Heard (s), Noel Uebergang, Justin Rasmussen and Gavin Buck) 20-14.
Peterborough (Charles Martin (s), Angela Payne, Ross Wooley and Graeme Murfett) lost to Camperdown 2 (Graeme Chamberlain (s), Norma Weller, Gordon Weller and Jason Riches) 9-29.
The top four this week in division two/three are Glenormiston 2 (undefeated), Glenormiston 3, Scotts Creek 2 and Camperdown 2.
In state title news, it was good to see bowls back at Warrnambool Arc Stadium, where the nationals were held last year.
A big thankyou to all the Heytesbury members who helped and played throughout the weekend.
In the men’s pairs last Saturday, Brett and Noah Mungean made it to the semi-finals.
In the ladies’ pairs, Bec Heard and debutante Sophie Pearson met Pam and Kathryn Wines in the semi-finals.
Pam and Kathryn have booked their spot in the VIBBA ladies’ pairs finals against Anne Draffen and Jodie Jones to be played at a later date.
In the ladies’ fours, Pam Wines, Lara Mungean, Kathryn Wines and Sophie Pearson beat all comers and are the 2026 VIBBA Ladies Fours Champions.
In the men’s fours, Allen Armistead, Peter Neal, Justin Rasmussen and Scott Pierce made it to the final and are the 2026 VIBBA Men’s Fours runners-up.
A fairly successful weekend for Heytesbury at the state championships.
The next major tournament will be the Ballarat Intergroup Championships, held over the King’s birthday long weekend.
