Jockey wheel causes spill
POLICE are urging people to keep an eye out for road hazards after a truck spilled diesel following a minor collision in Derrinallum last Saturday.
Camperdown and Mortlake police units responded to the incident at around 10pm on Saturday, May 17, with Country Fire Authority units from Derrinallum and Lismore assisting with the clean-up.
Corangamite Senior Sergeant Bill Caldow said the truck suffered damage after hitting a trailer jockey wheel on the Hamilton Highway.
“It initially happened about eight kilometres west of Derrinallum,” he said.
“The truck driver didn’t realise he had struck and done any damage for a start, but when he stopped in Derrinallum to go to the toilet, he found he had a very large hole in his fuel tank which had caused a diesel fuel spill.
“There was a streak of fuel in the right-hand lane that stopped in Derrinallum.
“VicRoads were notified and called out to clean up the fuel spill along the Hamilton Highway.
“There were no injuries to any person, no property damage and no issues with the truck driver.”
