This year the school decided to have two school captains and two vice captains, who principal Narelle Holliday said she was looking forward to working with.

“They’re all great students and we’re sure they’ll get the Student Voice Committee happening,” she said.

“Two of them will be on school council or they might choose to rotate through coming to school council.

“The Student Voice Committee has been raising some money over the last few years with the senior’s lunches we do every month so they’ve got a bit of money in the kitty, but they haven’t decided what to spend it on yet.”

School captain Zoe Buck said she was looking forward to encouraging students in getting more involved this year.

“I was inspired by the thought of having other kids look up to me and know that I’m one of their leaders,” she said.

“I wanted to let others know I was there.

“One of my visions for the school was to get the students more involved in everything like sports days, swimming sports, athletics – those kinds of things.

“A lot of kids either don’t show up at all or if they do show up they don’t actually participate, so trying to encourage them to do those events and show up and give it a go was one of my bigger ones.

“I did have some smaller ones like putting on little fun days for the kids like maybe a day on the ninja gym or something like that, just to give some kids some more motivation to come to school and know that it is a fun place to be and it doesn’t have to be bad.”

Fellow school captain Adam Jobling echoed Zoe’s sentiments and said he wanted to get more activities going for Year Seven and Eight students.

“I think being school captain is a good opportunity to put yourself out there,” he said.

“You don’t have too many opportunities to do much public speaking, so it’s just another bit of responsibility which is a step towards after school.

“Thinking back to Year Seven and Year Eight I remember during lunch there was more activities run, like sports between the houses, I’d like to probably implement that again – more interactivity between the Year Sevens to Year 12s.

“I’m looking forward to the athletics and having the chance to be a leader.”

Vice-captain Felix Nguenena agreed with Adam and said he remembered his Year Seven and Eight days fondly, wanting to bring back the activities which took place.

“One of the reasons why I wanted to be one of the school captains was to improve my public speaking,” he said.

“I just think it’s something I could be a little bit better at.

“As a leader for the young kids, just to be someone they could look up to especially when it comes to the aspect of sports, and I just wanted to try something new.

“A little bit like Adam said, just the inclusion of when we have those little sports days like we used to have, like soccer, basketball, hockey – there was a lot of inclusion when we were in Year Seven and Eight and I’d like to bring that back and see that again.

“I’m most looking forward to, with the other school captains and the staff hopefully figuring out some days where we can set up something for the younger kids.”

Vice-captain Alyvia McLean said she was happy to be involved with the other students and was looking forward to making a difference.

“It’s a good role to do,” she said.

“I just wanted to be there for the other students and give them someone to look up to.

“I just thought I was a great person for the role.

“I’m looking forward to all the opportunities and cool things that come with being a vice-captain.”
