Linton too strong for Derri
DERRINALLUM had its second loss of the season in Saturday’s round seven Grenville Cricket Association match at Linton.
Tigers captain Ned Uren won the toss and elected to bat first, with the visitors making 9/175 from their 40 overs.
Earlier, 175 seemed a long way off when Derrinallum were 5/84.
“They got on top of us early,” Uren said.
“I thought if we could crawl to 150 or 160 it would be good so I was pleased we were able to get to 175.”
Vice-captain Ben Carr top scored with a run a ball 34 including five boundaries.
Dale Hose made 26 and Deepak Kumar 25, Uren disappointed that so many in the team made starts and were not able to go on with it.
“We had seven make double figures, we really needed one or two of them to go on and get a big score.”
Linton passed the score in the 38th over, seven wickets down.
“We couldn’t get enough wickets through the middle overs, we knew we had to bowl them out to win.
“We went really defensive with our fields which certainly did hold them up and made the game go deep.”
Hunter Thompson and Karan Brar took two wickets each, with Uren praising the bowling of Ben Carr who went for just 18 from his five overs.
“Ben was our best for the day with both bat and ball, he held up an end really well with the ball.
“Linton will be one of the better teams so I’m not too disappointed with the result.”
This week Derrinallum will play Rokewood at Rokewood.
In the under 16s, Derrinallum had a 17 run win over Linton.
The junior Tigers made 5/102 from their 25 overs, Eddie Gellie top scoring with 29 not out.
Linton replied with 5/85, Neave Thompson the best of the bowlers with 2/12 from four overs.
