“It was a long day at the office,” lamented Camperdown coach Clin-ton Thomas.

“It was disappointing in that we’ve been very competitive for most of every game so far, yet on Saturday we really weren’t competitive for three quarters of the game.”

The Magpies only scored one goal in the first three quarters and were 43 points down at the last change.

“We let Cobden play the game on their terms with their handball heavy game, we didn’t apply enough defensive pressure.”

The final quarter saw Camperdown match the home teams scoring, both teams kicking four goals one behind, the Magpies unable to put a dent in the three-quarter time margin.

Josh Place was named best for Camperdown in a performance that impressed Thomas.

“It was really hard to find any four quarter players other than Josh, he was a real standout,” he said.

“JP started down back then we threw him onto the ball, he reads the ball drop as well as anyone and was a strong presence in the midfield.”

Camperdown now has the week off, the next assignment a home game against Koroit on June 14.
