Magpies division 3 storm home

Camperdown Golf Magpies Bowling Club division three mid-week team pulled off a magnificent come from behind win in the first semi-final last Tuesday.

Trailing Winchelsea at lunch by 20 shots 58 to 38, Golf stormed home to record a two shot win 72 to 70.

Peter James rink of Denis Place, Ruth Skene and Kel Edwards were trailing 6 shots to 22 at lunch but whatever they had at lunch certainly worked for them, outscoring their opponents 23 shots to nil to win 29 shots to 22.

Liz Riches rink of Garry Brian, Ella Blyth and Val Coverdale played well all day to win 24 shots to 21.

Marg Stephens rink of Norma Weller, Pat Scott and Carol Wilson battled hard all day to eventually go down by 8 shots 19 to 27.

Next Tuesday they play Colac City in the Preliminary final, and a win would see them play Derrinallum in the grand final Tuesday week.

Last Saturday saw division one travel to Cobden and despite winning three of the four rinks, Cobden managed to scrape home by 11 shots.

Craig Skene’s rink of Kev Conheady, Jamie Norton and Greg Teal won 26 to 17.

David Bateman’s rink of John Molan, Dan Stewart and Jack Paasse won by one shot 23 to 22.

Billy Conheady’s team of Chris Pearson, Graeme Fitzgerald and Daryl O’ Donohue also won by one shot 23 to 22.

Unfortunately, Glenn Winsall’s rink of Peter Reilly, Ash Sinnott and Mick Mahoney battled hard all day but went down by 21 shots 11 to 32.

Tomorrow division one host Colac Central and a win is quite possible having beaten Central at Colac earlier in the season.

Golf’s Saturday division 2 team gave themselves a great opportunity to play finals with a strong 32 shot four rinks win over Birregurra which saw them jump from fifth on the ladder to third.

Paul Richards rink of Wayne Henry, Taj Merrett and Greg Molan continued their great form with a 9 shot win 25 to 16.

Chris McLeod’s rink of Terry Place, Sam Whytcross and Greg Edwards had a good win by 13 shots 30 to 17.

Michael Brebner’s rink of Algie White, Andrew Anderson and James Henry returned to the winners list with a nine shot win 27 to 18 shots.

Leanne Fitzgerald’s rink of Kevin Russell, Noel Brebner and Ray Bateman finished off a great day with a one shot win 23 to 22.

Tomorrow, they travel to Apollo Bay who currently sit in fifth spot, so a tough match is expected.

A win would guarantee the Magpies a place in the final four and a crack at the premiership.

Golf division four (3) played a home game against sixth placed Colac Central and scraped in by the barest margin of 1 shot 42 to 41.

Ro Dunstan’s rink of John O’Donohue, George Bateman and Elaine Waterfall had an off day going down by 4 shots 10 to 14.

Rene Wyles team of Janet Molan, Liz Riches and Noelene Tolland went down by 4 shots 11 to 15.

The saviors of the day were Peter James team of Pam Place, Mark Winsall and Sam Clarke with a 9 shot win 21 to 12.

Tomorrow sees Golf four (3) away to Birregurra, who currently sit in seventh spot on the ladder.

Golf’s division four (4) did not play against Cressy at Cressy because of the heat restrictions so the points were shared.

Tomorrow sees them at home to second place Winchelsea and a win is a must if they are to keep their chance of playing finals alive.

The final will be played on Sunday afternoon.

Congratulations to our own Leanne Fitzgerald, who teamed with Maria Van Someren, Vicki Brebner and Kathy Leslie to win the Ladies State Fours at Warrnambool last Sunday.

All members are reminded of the club meeting on Monday night at 7.30pm at the club house.

The meeting is to discuss and vote on the changes to all divisions suggested, by the CPA match committee for next seasons midweek and Saturday pennant.

There is some very important changes being suggested so it is very important that as many members as possible attend.
