Magpies have their wings clipped

CAMPERDOWN Magpies Bowling Club’s division one pennant team suffered its first defeat of the season last Saturday.


The team went down to Colac City by the barest of margins, 83-84.

The loss leaves the team second on the ladder after six matches.

With a game against Colac 1 tomorrow under the dome at Colac, a win is a must if they are to remain in the top two.

Brad Errock’s rink of Jamie Norton, Darren Coverdale and Taj Merrett had their first loss of the season going down to Rebecca McMahon’s rink 18-25.

Craig Skene’s rink of Ron Cameron, Kel Rundle and Greg Teal lost to Ken Hanson’s rink 15-23.

Matty Brewer’s rink of Chris Pearson, Barry Atchison and Jack Paasse defeated Gary Morrisy’s rink 22-19.

Luke Wright’s rink of David Bateman, Len Searle and Kell Edwards continued their good form with a 28-17 win over Stewart Trigg’s rink.

Division one teams for tomorrow at Colac:

Luke Wright (s), David Bateman, Len Searle and Kel Edwards.

Matty Brewer (s), Chris Pearson, Barry Atchison and Jack Paase.

Ron Cameron (s), Craig Skene, Kel Rundle and James Henry.

The manager will be David Bateman and the bus (to be driven by Burger) will leave at 11am.

The division two (2) team continues its unbeaten start to the season with a 113-83 win over Colac 2.

Fred Salmon’s rink of Maria Van Someren, Kevin Russell and Greg Edwards continued its great form with a 37-11 defeat of Trevor Nelson’s rink.

Michael Brebner’s rink of Vicki Brebner, John O’Donohue and Brad Wilson also continued its winning way, defeating Carmel Watson’s rink 23-20.

Paul Richard’s rink of John Molan, Graeme Chamberlain and Keira Johnston had a good win over Ray Hutchinson’s rink 30-16.

Peter Reilly’s rink of Andrew Anderson, Gary Body and Les Parson battled hard all day but went down to Peter Colliehole’s rink 23-36.

Tomorrow division two (2) will take on Apollo Bay 2 at Thornton Street and they will be keen to keep their unbeaten season intact.

Division two (3) travelled to Apollo Bay last Saturday and came home with its first win of the season, 106-71.

Ian Henderson’s rink of Lud Gungl, Trey Darcy and Mick Mahony defeated George Harrison’s rink 25-13.

Chris McLeod’s rink of Leanne Fitzgerald, Kerry Henderson and Ron Simcox had a good win over Sandra Kent’s rink 32-11.

New skipper Glenn Winsall and his team of Mark Winsall, Daryl O’Donohue and Nic Salagari defeated Larry Redman’s rink 27-23.

Stan Adeney’s rink of Harry Van Someren, Greg Molan and Ray Bourke just missed out on making it a clean sweep, defeated by Brian Kent’s rink 22-23.

Tomorrow Magpies (3) take on Lorne at the Golf complex and a tough match is expected against the third-placed team.

The Magpies division three team returned to the winners’ list last Saturday with a 81-66 win over Lorne 2.

Paul Brebner’s rink of Janet Molan, Max Rippon and Kathy Banks went down to Jeffrey Reddle’s rink 16-22.

Steve Lucas’ rink of Peter James, Xavier Crabbe and Pip Robertson were defeated by Elizabeth Lugg’s rink 13-17.

Ron Absalom’s rink of John Salau, Pam Atchison and Gerard Broderick defeated Peter Barraclough’s rink 27-13.

Tom Hose’s rink of Paul Halloran, Trish Taylor and Deb Noonan defeated Graeme Dickson’s rink 25-14.

Tomorrow division three will be at home at Golf to Colac Central 2 and a win would see them knocking on the door of the top four.

It was great to see Sam Whytcross back in the Magpies colours for his first game of the season.

The Magpies division four team travelled to Derrinallum and went down 43-69.

Carol Wilson’s rink of Pat Scott and Andrew Whiteside saved the day with a win over Lorraine Uren’s rink 21-19.

Gary Mitchell’s rink of Kylea Dickson, Caroline Strampel and Keith Bateman went down to Adrian McKenzie’s rink 12-29.

Gordon Weller’s rink of Norma Weller, Ruth Skene and Ton Vermaas went down to Michael Beech’s rink 10-21.

Tomorrow division four will travel to play Winchelsea 3 who are undefeated so far this season so a big effort will be required.

Carol Wilson (s), Barney Dickson, S. Pearson and Deb Noonan.

Peter James (s), Tim Spokes, Brett Noonan and Pip Robertson.

Bert Sloetjes (s), Gordon Weller, Norma Weller and Andrew Whiteside.

The manager will be Carol Wilson and the bus will leave at 11.15am, driven by Pip Robertson.

In division one midweek last Tuesday, the Magpies travelled to take on Colac 1 and came home with a 64-shots all draw.

Peter Reilly’s rink of Barry Atchison, Ian Henderson and Janet Molan lost to Aileen Dudley’s rink 15-22.

Craig Skene’s rink of Fred Salmon, John O’Donohue and Chris Pearson defeated Carmel Watson’s rink 30-14.

Maria Van Someren’s rink of Len Searle, Michael Brebner and Greg Edwards were defeated by Leona Pekin’s rink 19-28.

Next Tuesday the Magpies will travel to take on Cobden 1 who also suffered a loss last week so a close encounter is expected.

Craig Skene (s), Fred Salmon, John O’Donohue and Kel Edwards.

Janet Molan will be the manager and skippers are to arrange transport.

Division two mid-week were home to Colac 3 and had a 85-66 win, which enabled them to climb to third on the ladder.

Ron Simcox’s rink of Les Pearson, Pam Atchison and Brad Wilson defeated Kaye Burrell’s rink 27-20.

Stan Adeney’s rink of Ron Cameron, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland were the big winners on the day, defeating Sofia Montano’s rink 36-11.

Barb Boyd’s rink of Tim Spokes, Paul Brebner and Elaine Waterfall were defeated by Edward Riches’ rink 22-35.

Next Tuesday division two will travel to take on Birregurra who are winless this season so the Magpies should make it three consecutive wins.

Ron Simcox (s), Les Pearson, Pam Atchison and Brad Wilson.

Stan Adeney (s), Noel Brebner, Kerry Henderson and Noelene Tolland.

Barb Boyd (s), Tim Spokes, Wayne Henry and Elaine Waterfall.

Rene Wyles will be the emergency, Barb Boyd the manager and Stan Adeney will drive the bus (leaving at 8.45am).

In division three the Magpies travelled to take on the undefeated Winchelsea.

Although the Magpies were defeated, they put up a strong showing to go down 46-68.

Peter James’ rink of Gordon Weller, Val Coverdale and Deb Noonan lost to David Littler’s rink 16-24.

Norma Weller’s rink of Donna Watts, Pat Scott and Ray Bourke fought hard all day but were defeated 14-22 by Angela Littler’s rink.

Marg Stephens’ rink of Carol Wilson, Ruth Skene and Kathy Banks also bowled well but went down to Colin Williams’ rink 16-22.

Next Tuesday division three will take on Colac 4 and a win would not surprise.

A pizza night will be held at the club next Saturday, December 6.

Names are to be on the board no later than December 4 and the cost will be $10 per head.

A reminder that all names need to be put down for the supporters’ bus to Winchelsea on December 5.

There will be a meet and greet session with Aaron Wilson and Lee Worsnop on the night.
