Magpies push for a flag
CAMPERDOWN’S hopes of bringing home a 2024 Hampden League premiership rest with the club’s 17 and under netballers.
After finishing the home and away season in second place on the league ladder, the girls defeated South Warrnambool 31-27 in the qualifying final before going down 42-56 in a high-scoring semi-final against Koroit earlier this month.
They earned themselves a place in this Saturday’s grand final after defeating South Warrnambool 33-26 in last weekend’s preliminary final round.
Best for the Magpies on Saturday were Indiana Cameron, Piper Stephens and Isla Fleming.
They will now face Koroit this Saturday in what will no doubt be a highly skilled game of netball.
The game will start at 10am at Warrnambool’s Reid Oval.
Last weekend’s preliminary final round also saw the Magpies’ 17 and under reserves hit the court.
After a strong first quarter against Koroit, the scores were level at 5-5 but a three goal to six second quarter saw the Saints take a two goal lead going into the main break.
This was extended to five goals by three-quarter time, with the Saints coming home nine-goal victors, 22-13.
Best for the Magpies were Poppy Kerr, Lily Maskell and Isla Nolan.
