Mr McIntosh was welcomed into the role at last Friday’s changeover dinner by charter member John Keane at the Noorat Community Centre.

Also inducted were Kerrin McKenzie and Paul Humphrey as joint secretaries and Chris O’Connor as treasurer.

The recent death of charter member Stewart ‘Stewie’ Stonehouse was acknowledged with a minute’s silence, and long-time Terang Co-Op staff member Paul Hay was inducted as a new member of the club.

He was sponsored by Paul Humphrey.

In his president’s report for 2025/26, outgoing president Simon Delaney said it was a privilege to serve the club and thanked all members for their dedication, hard work and ongoing commitment to supporting the local community.

Mr Delaney said the year had been one of friendship, service and resilience.

“Through fundraising events, community projects and volunteering efforts the club continued to make a positive impact throughout Terang and district,” he said.

“None of this would be possible without the generosity of our supporters and the willingness of our members to step up whenever needed.

“Every contribution has mattered.

“We have also welcomed opportunities to work alongside other community groups, strengthening the spirit of cooperation that makes regional communities so special.”

Incoming president Lee McIntosh said he had been welcomed into the presidency as the club looked to embrace the next generation of leaders.

“We’re an ageing club and, while everyone has got to do their bit, the older members felt they’ve had the chance to lead plenty of times,” he said.

“I think they wanted to give some of the younger members a chance to have an impact on the club.”

The club is looking ahead to pushing towards major projects, with an expansion of the Terang Caravan Park now in the early stages.

“We’re in the process of looking at doing a case study for a big extension of the caravan park, overlooking the golf course, including building a fair few cabins,” Mr McIntosh said.

“It’s a big project and we’ve been saving up for a fair time now.

“We want to invest heavily back into the caravan park.”

Another project in the wings is plans to spruce up the Terang Railway Station.

“It’s one of the faces of Terang with a lot of people coming through on the trains,” Mr McIntosh said.

“We feel it’s been neglected pretty badly over the past 10 or 15 years.

“We’re looking at removing all the old garden beds and starting from scratch.

“We want to put in new garden beds with native plants.”

Mr McIntosh said his hope for the next year would be bringing in new membership to the club, with an emphasis on youth and bringing more women into the ranks.

“My main thing is membership, as we’re an ageing club with two members over 90 and we’re also 100 per cent male,” he said.

“I would love to get a few members under 40, and also bring some women into the club.

“We’ve had female members previously but as we’re all male now, we’d love to change that.”

Additional members would support the club in its ongoing programs which enrich the community.

“We have the eye health checks, which are important for us as we do that at primary schools throughout the district,” Mr McIntosh said.

“It is an important program as the quicker you can pick up eye health issues, the better.

“We’ve also got the skin cancer checks this weekend – we’re close to booking out again this year after having done so last year.”

Mr McIntosh said anyone interested in becoming a member was invited to give him a call on 0413 471 041.
