Plans underway for a bumper Gala Night
PLANS are unfolding for Gala Night this year to emphasise health, wellbeing and community connection as the region begins to emerge from the difficulty of drought conditions.

This year’s annual Gala Festival is set to return on Friday, December 19 from 5pm, bringing vibrancy to Terang’s street in support of local retails.
Activities will this year include a Santa Dash from 6pm, a dunk tank raising funds for local charities and organisations raffle stalls and an activity area accessible with a $5 wristband which features a jumping castle, chair-o-plane, bungee run and face painting.
Terang Progress Association secretary Janice Harris said this year’s Gala Night would feature some of the favourite activities from recent events in a bid to draw in crowds and support local businesses.
“We will still have children’s activities and the raffle, we’ll have street stalls and food vendors,” she said.
“We’re hoping some of the businesses selling food will stay open, but all traders staying open would be a bonus for people to be able to do their Christmas shopping.
“The major raffle draw is drawn at 8pm, which is always popular with the first prize being $3000 of vouchers at local stores – second prize with $2000 in vouchers and third prize is $1000 in vouchers.
“The major raffle draws a big crowd, but it also encourages people to shop locally over the December period to get their tickets.
“We’ve also got the Flamin 80’s this year playing throughout the night.”
Ms Harris said there would be additional emphasis on farmers through a partnership with Terang and Mortlake Health Service (TMHS) and Farmer Health.
“This year we’re trying to focus on farmer health so we’re hoping to get farmers and their families attending the event to have some free health checks,” she said.
“We have TMHS on board who will do the free blood pressure checks on the night, we also have resources from Stroke Foundation resources and Farmer Health has provided a Look Over the Farm Gate grant and provided some resources for farmers on stress management.
“Farmers are a big part of it and we know a lot of them take the opportunity to come into town for a great night and to support the local traders such as the Terang Co-Op and the Rural Store.
“Our businesses rely on farmers and farmers rely on them.
“Farmers are such a vital part of the Terang community so we want to recognise them and recognise they been doing it tough but can enjoy a fun, free night out.”
Raffles tickets for the major prize are available from today (Thursday, November 27) at almost 30 participating businesses across Terang.
