Police seek information following shootings
POLICE have made an appeal for information from the Terang community due to concerns an Estcourt Street property has been shot at multiple times since October last year.
Detective Senior Constable Wayne Ryan of the Warrnambool Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) said gunshots have damaged the property at least twice in the past eight months.
“On October 18 last year, an Estcourt Street resident reported to police that someone had fired a shotgun on the street and pellets had gone into the wall of their house,” he said.
“It was reported then and police investigated with a door knock conducted, but there were no witnesses.”
A second incident was suspected to have happened on March 1 this year in the Estcourt Street area after a single gunshot was heard.
“A resident reported hearing a single gunshot at around 11pm,” Det Snr Const Ryan said.
“No damage was caused to any houses but a resident believes they heard the shot fired – however, it is unknown if that was a shotgun or a rifle.”
Another incident was reported to police last week after the same resident whose property was damaged last October again found damage to their home.
“Between May 13-15 this year, the same victim of the Estcourt Street residence has found new damage to their house, which was believed to have been caused by shotgun pellets,” Det Snr Const Ryan said.
“This one wasn’t heard so we don’t have a timeframe.”
Det Snr Const Ryan said any instance of shots ringing out in town was troubling, and urged anyone with information to come forward.
“It’s obviously concerning,” he said.
“Police are unaware whether this is a targeted incident or whether it is something random.
“We encourage anybody in the Terang community who has any information to contact Crimestoppers 1800 333 000, myself or the officer in charge through the Warrnambool CIU on 5560 1333.”
