Raise a hand to rattle a tin
AS Camperdown’s Good Friday Appeal ramps up for another year, appeal coordinator Kellie Kempton is calling for volunteers to put their hands up to shake tins for charity.

The annual charity drive raises funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital as part of the state-wide campaign, with Ms Kempton saying the Camperdown appeal has not been able to door-knock the whole town in recent years.
“We definitely want as many volunteers as we can to collect all the money – there are people who sit and wait for people to call in, and if they don’t call, we miss out on that money,” she said.
“It’d be ideal to cover the whole town.
“We’ll still set up at the Guide Hall again this year – the Girl Guides donate the hire of the hall, and it’s a central hub on the highway for everyone to go and pick up all their tins.
“We’ve got the CFA (Country Fire Authority) going out again to cover all the surrounding town area.”
Members of the CFA brigades in Camperdown, Chocolyn, Weerite and Bookaar will hit the streets as part of the appeal, shaking tins for passing drivers to drop their donations into as they travel for Easter.
Ms Kempton said the raffle will also make a return this year, with Sweet Giftz donating a large chocolate rabbit for the grand prize.
“Chrissy Fleming will be on the street on April 10 and 17 out the front of the Camperdown Newsagency,” she said.
“I’m hoping to raise more than last year.
“We’ve still got Music by the Lake on Good Friday.”
Ms Kempton said she was keen on beating last year’s record-breaking total of $43,036.80.
“We have got a QR code this year which is specifically for Camperdown – anyone who scans it will go straight to the Camperdown total and anyone who rings up and is from Camperdown will donate towards us,” she said.
Collection tins will also be distributed to Camperdown businesses.
Ms Kempton said the local IGA store will also be participating this year, in addition to the donations from Woolworths’ collection tins adding to the town’s total.
The major fundraising day – Good Friday (Friday, April 18) – will see the doors of the Guide Hall, located at 251 Manifold Street, opened from 8am with EFTPOS available for those who would prefer to pay by card.
