Rallying behind Skipton CFA

THE Skipton Country Fire Authority (CFA) Brigade has seen a boost thanks to an initiative through Skipton’s supermarket.

Skipton Country Grocers were among eight stores within the network to come together and raise over $20,000 for brigades who fought the Streatham-Skipton fires in January.

Skipton Country Grocers staff member Courtney Layley said the store sold $2 tokens and were able to donate $684 to the Skipton CFA Brigade.

“It’s an initiative done by Country Grocers as a collective, so all eight of our stores were contacted by the regional manager as soon as the fires happened, and we immediately agreed we wanted to do something to help all the communities affected by the fires,” she said.

“We thought about having a dollar token people could purchase in store, put their name on and all the money went to CFA brigades from each community.

“It’s been amazing.

“We’ve been very proud to help our community as we were deeply affected by the fires.

“It’s just something that we can do to give back to our CFA volunteers who helped rebuild or save homes.”
