The Roosters gained the ascendency with a five goal to one first quarter, Camperdown never able to bridge the gap.

“To South Warrnambool’s credit, they came out firing in the first quarter while we missed the start and had to play catch up,” lamented Camperdown coach Clinton Thomas.

“In the early rounds we got away with an off quarter and still won, but you can’t concede a quarter to teams the quality of South Warrnambool.”

South Warrnambool kicked five goals to Camperdown’s four in the final three quarters.

“We competed well after quarter time which is something to take out of the game,” Thomas said.

Under 18 player Albie Cheeseman became the latest Magpie to make his senior debut.

“Albie slotted in well as a late call up to replace Jack Heanly who was not quite right.

“He kicked a nice goal, has a huge future as an inside player, always tough for a kid who plays physically to step up against older bodies.”

Thomas liked what he saw from Luke Kavenagh and Harry Sumner who were named as Camperdown’s best.

“Luke competed well, his pressure around the ball was impressive, as a ruckman he basically plays as an onballer too.

“Harry did really well, he has a big job every week on a good player, but always counter punches and gets plenty of his own ball too.”

This week Camperdown will host third placed Portland at the Leura Oval.

“There’s no easy games in the Hampden League, after two losses in a row they’ll be looking to come out with a point to prove.”
