Rubbish fire embers escape

THE Country Fire Authority (CFA) is reminding residents to ensure any fires they light are properly extinguished after crews responded to an escaped rubbish fire.

Eight units attended a property on Pomborneit-Foxhow Road in Pomborneit North on Tuesday, May 20 at around 5.41am.

CFA District Six commander Ross Crompton said crews were on scene for 20 minutes, with the incident deemed under control at 6.01am.

“It came in as a structure fire,” he said.

“It looked like it was an old rubbish fire that potentially burnt out that was left unattended.

“It crept away from that area into some grass, then it burned around a water tank and then caught onto more grass and a four-by-four metre shed containing wood and a few Gerry cans.

“Be mindful of how dry the conditions still are and leaving fire unattended.

“If you ever think they are completely out, make sure they are completely extinguished with water before leaving it unattended because this is how easy things can get away.”
