Senior Swans take fourth win
CARAMUT’S senior footballers scored their fourth win of the season on Saturday with a 55 point win over 2025 runners-up the Ararat Eagles.
The Swans led all day to record a 14.14.98 to 5.13.43 win at Ararat’s Alexandra Oval.
“It was a great win, overall we played three really good quarters, we're still just trying to get that four quarter effort at the moment,” Caramut coach Scott Judd said.
“It’s a nice win against last year’s grand finalists, but also against a team that’s probably got a really good home ground advantage as well.”
Caramut got out of the blocks well, kicking five goals five to no score in the opening term.
“It was a very good start, we’ve been trying to work on that, that was probably one of our weaknesses over the first few weeks.
“The last two weeks have been pretty good, getting to a good start, it's always nice to get a few goals on the board early and try to hold that lead if you can.”
Star recruit Jeff Garlett was best for Caramut in the win.
“Jeffy has obviously got a fair bit of experience, he probably stood out over everyone on the weekend.
“He was composed around the contest, used the ball very, very well and slowed the game down for us.”
Judd rated the contribution of Joel Harriss equally as high.
“Joelie, on the other hand, did a lot of the dirty work and just played his role really well.
“I'd love to know how many one percenters and tackles Joel gets in a game, it was a contrast of two tales, Jeffy got on the end of it and set us up while Joelie did a lot of the hard, tough work.”
Ben Makepeace continued his strong form in front of goal, kicking five goals.
“Ben’s in pretty good form at the moment, he’s put himself into fourth in the league goal kicking, he's firing pretty well for a small forward.
“He leads up into the ball really well and creates a good contest and he's a dead eye in front of goal as well.”
This week Caramut play Glenthompson/Dunkeld at the Caramut Recreation Reserve, both teams sitting on four wins and two losses.
Following the game the Swans will hold their major fundraiser with their annual goods and services auction starting at 6.30pm.
“It’s a big game in terms of context if either of us want to put our foot down and get into finals later in the year, I think it’ll be a pretty good game as well looking at results over the past few weeks, one of us gets to move up the ladder.
“The goods and services auction is our biggest fundraiser for the year, we’re looking forward to a big night.”
Caramut also got the points in the reserves, scoring a 7.12.54 to 3.10.28 win.
Matthew Rook, Teba Lott and Will Bourke were best for the Swans reserves, with all goal kickers being single goal kickers.
There was no game for Caramut’s under 17 footballers with Ararat not fielding a team at that level in 2026.
The Eagles took out the under 13 football with a 5.4.34 to 1.5.11 win.
Harry Diprose, William Pearse and William Diprose were best for the junior Swans, with Arlo McRae kicking the only goal.
Ararat was too strong in the A grade netball, winning 50-40.
Zoe Wagstaff and Tahlee Dannatt were Caramut's best in the loss, with Wagstaff shooting 25 goals and Maddi Calvert 12.
The B grade game also went the way of the Eagles who won 41-34.
April Edwards scored 19 goals and Charlotte Delaney scored 10 for Caramut, with Carmel Moloney and Maddinson Higginson best.
In C grade, Caramut had a 37-30 win.
Carmel Meade scored 18 and Julia Mann 14, with Edie Douglas and Meade best.
Caramut scored a 28-16 win in the 17 and under game, with Marli McRae shooting 16 goals and Sarah Russell eight.
In the 15 and under game, Caramut had a 35-14 win.
Alex Lehmann and Pippa Dufty were the Swans best, with Lehmann scoring 11 goals and Payson Walker 10.
The 13 and under netball ended in a 21-21 draw.
Montana Redmond was best for the junior Swans, with Payson Walker shooting 10 goals.
