BRUNSWICK cyclist Fergus Fitzwater beat home a quality field to win the Maurice Stewart Memorial at Noorat last Sunday.
Thirty seven riders from Melbourne, Port Fairy, Warrnambool, Camperdown, Mount Gambier, Colac, Hamilton, Ballarat and Geelong took part in the 66 kilometre, two lap circuit around Noorat and The Sisters in windy conditions.
Fitzwater, who was a part of the 13 minute group, held on in the final stages of the event to defeat Ballarat-Sebastopol’s Brenton Ryan and Warrnambool’s Luke Maguire.
Hamilton’s Rohan Garfoot and Camperdown pair Arno Van der Schans and John Ryan rounded out the top six placings.
Four minute marker Riley Helmore from Camperdown clocked the fastest time of the day, completing the circuit in one hour, 41 minutes.
In the junior race, Camperdown’s Finn Baxter was first and fastest.
He beat home Port Fairy’s Asha Graham and Camperdown’s Abbie Taylor.
