Strong support for fashion parade
A STRONG crowd of ladies enjoyed a fashionable night out with good company and fun for the Bookaar Cricket Club’s Spring Summer Fashion Parade last Friday.

Around 175 ladies attended the night, which saw local clothing stores represented with spring and summer themed outfits modelled by seven models.
Bookaar Cricket Club’s Tracey Baker was the brains behind the night, with fellow women cricketers Laura Sexton, Pru Luker, Audrey Ringe, Jess Cameron and Annabel Lucas walking the red carpet for their club.
Camperdown fashion icons Judi Oakes and Claire Kempton were also modelling on the night.
Kirsty Green, who helped to organise the outfits on the night, said the night saw “unbelievable” support from the community.
“It was a great fundraiser for the cricket club – they’re very pleased with how it went,” she said.
“It was such a fun night.
“Everyone was so social – all the ladies came, they caught up with their friends and had a nice glass of wine.
“Once the fashion parade was finished, we thought everyone would just head home, but people hung around and caught up with their girlfriends. It was really nice.”
The night also included a trivia game and lucky door and seat prizes.
Members of the Bookaar Cricket Club catered the event and were able to raise close to $6500 through tickets, bar sales and a raffle which was held on the night.

Ms Green said the club was very happy with the result, which will go towards an important project.
“The Bookaar Cricket Club have moved to Frederick Street in Camperdown, and they’ve moved a portable there, which they’re turning into clubrooms,” she said.
“The fundraiser was to make sure they could get the project going.
“It’s good because I have two boys who play cricket – at the moment when I go and watch them play cricket, after afternoon tea I have to repack all the food and put it in an esky so they can have it after cricket finished, and I also have to use the portaloo up there.
“The fact they’ll have clubrooms up there with changerooms, toilets, a kitchen with a fridge, home and away team changerooms will be great.
“Bookaar Cricket Club have got a big women’s cricket team, so it’ll be nice for them to have changerooms, showers and tables to sit at.”
Ms Green said attendees came from all around the area, including Warrnambool, Colac, Timboon and even Derrinallum.
“I think, since COVID-19, everyone’s been a bit frightened of going out,” she said.
“It was just lovely – the weather was beautiful, the environment was nice and relaxed, and there was no pressure on anybody.
“I think most of the ladies really appreciated it, and it showed in the numbers we had – and it was people of all ages as well.
“The cricket club are such a great family club.
“Both my sons and my sister Pru (Luker) play there, and they have just been so welcoming to us as a family – to be able to help them raise money is a nice feeling.”
Ms Green said the Bookaar Cricket Club is keen to run the fashion parade again next year following the strong support for this year’s event.
“The cricket club said “same time next year,” and I responded in the affirmative, so I think they’ve got us booked in to run it again next year,” she said.
