Susanna named Lifesaver of the Year
A TIMBOON youth has been named Life Saving Victoria’s Youth Lifesaver of the Year at this year’s annual Awards of Excellence.

Susanna Ryan can be found patrolling Port Campbell beach during the summer, but her involvement with the Port Campbell Surf Lifesaving Club (SLSC) runs deeper than between the red and yellow flags.
“At Port Campbell SLSC, Susanna is our vice club captain, a patrol captain, a youth involvement coordinator, an under 18 leadership and development camp leader and mentor,” Port Campbell SLSC vice president Darcy Tribe said.
“In these many voluntary roles Susanna serves countless hours patrolling between the red and yellow flags on the beach over summer.
“We are all incredibly proud of Susanna.
“She is an amazing role model for young and old all throughout the community.”

The Youth Lifesaver of the Year award recognises and rewards a young member aged between 18 and 21 years who has made an outstanding contribution in their role with surf lifesaving.
At 20 years old, Susanna has been a part of Port Campbell SLSC since Nippers when she was six.
She’s currently studying medical imaging at Deakin University in Geelong and said she was surprised to receive the award.
“I was very surprised. It was my first time winning this award,” she said.
“I spend most of my summer at home on the beach.
“The award means a lot because the club means a lot to me so it’s nice to win.”
