Toe-tapping fun set for Lake Purrumbete
RESIDENTS are being encouraged to dust off their dancing shoes for the annual Music by the Lake event next week, with the event hoping to continue raising funds for the Good Friday Appeal.

Organiser and returning artist Ian ‘Bidge’ Boyd said the event, which will be held on Friday, April 18 from 12noon, was just looking to support a worthy cause while providing a fun day out for music lovers at the Lake Purrumbete Holiday Park.
“Last year, our record was $8550, but I wouldn’t expect it to happen again,” he said.
“We had some special extra things happen, but we hope to raise as much money as we can.
“Help support the event.
“It’s a good cause – we’ve run the event for 16 years and we’ve raised over $50,000.”
Mr Boyd said he had a kickstart to the fundraising campaign through his performances as a country musician.
“I busked the night before the Lake Charlegrak Country Music Marathon,” he said.
“We’ve got over $300 from there – everyone at the festival knew we were donating to the Good Friday Appeal.”
In addition to Mr Boyd, a number of artists are making a return to Lake Purrumbete for the annual fundraiser, including Kinta, long-time Music by the Lake artist Allan Webster, Joe Musico, Rhiannon McArthur and Peter Daffy.
“Cameron Mason will be making his first appearance at Music by The Lake this year,” Mr Boyd said.
“He hails from Bendigo and is a very successful, popular singer songwriter.”
The event will begin at 12noon, with coffee, spiral potatoes and more on site to fuel attendees.
A variety of fundraising raffles and competitions will also provide entertainment throughout the day while also providing chances to donate to the appeal, with the annual auction also making a return this year.
“We’re grateful for donations of raffle prizes and auction items from the local community and businesses,” Mr Boyd said.
“We have some auction items available including Birkenstock footwear donated by Theodore Podiatry, which can be exchanged for size, a security camera kit donated by the Co-Op Colac valued at around $600, a trailer load of dry split sugar gum firewood and the legendary Shirley Sutherland Purrumbete pelican paintings.”
Mr Boyd encouraged residents to come along for a day of music and fun.
Attendees are advised to bring their own chairs and shade on the day.
