Training available for budding lifeguards
CORANGAMITE Shire Council is offering free training for shire residents aged 12-24 during the September school holidays.
Lifeguard training is a fun and active way for young people to build confidence and leadership skills, opening up part-time or casual job opportunities during school holidays and summer.
“The Pool Lifeguard Training Course is at Cobden Health Indoor Pool on Tuesday, September 23 and Wednesday, September 24,” coordinator community development and engagement Bec Reedman said.
The sessions will run from 9.30am – 4.30pm on both days.
“Being a lifeguard teaches vital first aid and aquatic CPR skills that can save lives,” Ms Reedman said.
“It’s a fantastic way to stay fit and improve swimming ability in a structured environment.
“Lifeguards play a key role in keeping pools and beaches safe, which is especially important in Australia’s water-loving culture.
“Having lifeguard certification looks impressive on a resume and can lead to other roles in aquatic or emergency services.
“Most importantly, it empowers young people to make a real difference in their community.”
Bookings for the course can be made online at events.humanitix.com/lifeguard-training-2025.
The course will equip candidates with the skills and knowledge required to supervise swimming pool users.
It covers pool surveillance, scanning techniques, rescue skills, oxygen resuscitation and emergency care.
Prospective participants must have the First Aid/CPR certificate before they can register for this course.
