Veterans return to the greens

CORANGAMITE veteran golfers were finally able to return to the course last week.

After an extended period of weather-related disruptions, golfers travelled to Winchelsea on Monday, November 18 where they found the course in superb condition.

It appeared the course had only a little sign of the heavy spring rains that had affected many others across the region.

A field of 33 golfers made the trip to compete across two grades.

A grade was won by Trevor Gardner (Cobden) on 35 points, followed by Bill Boddington (Colac) 34 on countback from Andrew Burrows (Camperdown) in third on 19.

NAGA was Ian Roachford (Port Fairy) with 19 points.

B grade was won by Liz Alston (Winchlesea) on 35 points on countback from runner-up Colin Venn (Terang) 35, with Barry Philip (Apollo Bay) third on 30.

NAGA was Dennis Chappell (Winchelsea) with 23 points.

Nearest the pins: 2/11 (golden hole) Trevor Gardner of Cobden, 6/15 Allan Withal (Colac) and 8/17 Algie White (Camperdown).

During presentations, president Graham thanked all competitors for attending and reminded members that the final event of the year would be held at Camperdown on Tuesday, December 9.

With a large field expected, and a two-course lunch, players are encouraged to arrive early.

The aim is to have golf finished by 2.30pm, followed by lunch.

Raffles and presentations will take place at the end of play.

The first event for 2026 will be at East Framlingham on Monday, January 5.
